These four paintings represent pages from a story never written, about a young woman who learned she was to have a baby.  She knew that child was a gift from God, and that she would cherish that child always. 

When she had given birth to the child, she realized she would give anything in order to see her child be free.  She managed to find a weak link in her chains, and to break free.  Then her journey, and her trial, began.

Finding herself in the swamp, fleeing her former masters, the tracking dogs, and the chains, she discovers there is even more to fear.  A "Gator" is about to enter the water. 

Hating Slavery even more than death, determined to live, to raise her child as a Free Man, she fights.  Her chains that bound her to servitude become her only weapon, but with God's help, she overcomes.  Bloodied and torn, she holds her cherished Son, while raising her face and her prayers to God.

There is now a 4th painting, and she has arrived just in time for a Christening.  She and her son are free and have come home.  Sorry for the  photo, I haven't got is edited properly yet, but you can see, she is supported by those who have gone before, She and her son are bloodied and in rags, but they have persevered; they are alive;  They are Free!
