So, if you've read the "about us" page already, here or in our last incarnation, you know that Ray has been professing his innocence since his trial in 1973. We tried for decades to get the police records from the Detroit Police Department, but were met with all kinds of road blocks, including, but not limited to a court order to which the Detroit police responded (after months of delays) that (oops) they had lost the file. We always knew there were things we didn't know. But, being innocent, Ray could only guess and hope that there was something that could exonerate him. Then, a few years ago, we got part of the records. Our current attorney, Craig Daly of Detroit , submitted yet another Freedom of Information Act request, and lo, and behold we got quite a pile of information! Including notes about fingerprints that were taken at the time of the original murder investigation! The police interrogation records indicated the gunman took change from a jar and that was where the technicians found the fingerprints. They weren't Raymond's prints, so the police ignored the witness's statement that it was the gunman who had handled the jar, and simply assumed they belonged to the accomplice. Prosecutors told Ray's attorney there were no prints, he did not have the experience to make a motion for discovery anyway, and so that was what Ray believed until now. Our attorney, Craig Daly of Detroit, MI requested an evidentiary hearing, or a new trial and the judge denied it, using the prosecutor's position, saying Ray should have used the prints in 1973, despite the fact that they were never revealed in 1973. Our attorney submitted documentation showing that the prints were never listed or available to Ray's defense, and requested a reconsideration for the evidentiary hearing. That was a couple years ago. It is now winter, 2007, and the judges at both the first level and Appeals Court have denied us. So, after that our attorney had 54 days to refile in Michigan Supreme Court, and he forgot, despite having been paid to do so! We are selling stuff! We are selling greeting cards with Ray's artwork on them for $3.00 or 5 for $10.00. We have prints, and we even have some new art you will see on the site, today. I have signed up with Paypal so we can take credit cards but still haven't figured out how to put the links and such on the site. Meantime, you can write me and let us know what card or cards you'd like and we will figure out how to get them out to you. Every day is torture for Ray and his family. If you can afford even one card, it will help us. Meanwhile, thank you for listening. 04/08/2006
